The Hunt + Public Good

Billy Morgan

A dance of the night-time, a parading dance, a dance of abandon, or at the edge of an unnamed absence. Two performers use gesture as a language in the making.

Billy Morgan and Tim Brügger are presenting a double-bill of "The Hunt" followed by the premiere of a new work entitled "Public Good".

"Public Good" is conceived as a second chapter to "The Hunt", and was created during a residency at CC Amstel's studio. The works will be separated by a short interval of fifteen minutes.

In "The Hunt", two dancers move cyclically through an unseen place, conjuring it instead through their fingers, transects, and distances. From scenes of subjugation to flashes of abandon, Morgan stages dance as a communicative force, somewhere in the interplay of hunter and hunted. The work emerges from the Labours of the Months; medieval depictions of seasonal cycles of work and leisure attributed to the laboring classes.

"Public Good" follows Celine and Sophie, two captives of the metropole, and their eventual apprehension. In London, Sophie goes down to the kiosk to report her lover, Céline, as missing. In Paris, Céline opens the newspaper to discover her lover, Sophie, has disappeared.

The evening, including both works and interval, will last around 1h20 in total.

"The Hunt - Public Good" follows Morgan's preoccupation with language, estrangement and the fictions of the body.
