Bonds per Stitch Gesprek
CC AmstelWe praten over de voorstelling Bonds Per Stich door Rucha Kulkarni en de sociaal-artistieke aspecten die erbij komen kijken.
Rucha Kulkarni and Arthur Kneepkens enter into a conversation about Rucha’s work and her methods for engaging people and communities in her practice. They will reflect on notions of identity and community, and how artists can navigate these complex, layered and fluid constellations. This engagement, which can be seen as the fabric (or the material) of a social art practice, is how we often come to a better understanding of ourselves, our work and the people we work with and for - although sometimes with hindsight. Bonds per Stitch - part of the Imagine The Future exhibit of Amsterdam Museum - serves as the starting point for this discussion.
Rucha Kulkarni works from Amsterdam (NL) and Pune (IN). She is a visual artist whose work centers around social practice, textiles and art installations. In her work different layers of socio-cultural realities come to the fore, often with prominent notions of artist responsibility to her surroundings. This brings forth not just economic, social and cultural ambiguities and assertions, but also plays with the individual mind, raising questions of locating oneself geographically or mentally; questioning believes ideologically and historically. The same is reflected through her art works, her active role in sustainable social practice all of which revolve around existential notion of the self within larger varying, constantly shifting backdrops.
