Reis mee naar de turbulente jaren 70 en 80 in Suriname. Zes spelers tonen hun ingewikkelde strijd en dagen je uit om na te denken over wat het betekent om te vechten voor vrijheid. Met humor, nostalgische en poëtische visuals, strijdbare muziek en heftige confrontaties ontvouwt de voorstelling zich als een liefdesbrief naar de oudere generatie, waarin het begrip voor giftige overlevingsmechanismen centraal staat.  

Deze inspirerende voorstelling werpt een blik op de gevolgen van eeuwenlange onderdrukking, met speciale aandacht voor de persoonlijke verhalen van Surinamers. BRADA onthult de helden, de slechteriken, en de vergeten vrijheidsstrijders die vochten voor hun voorouders, familie en kinderen. Mis het niet.

Travel back to the turbulent 70s and 80s in Suriname. Six performers reveal their intricate struggle and challenge you to reflect on what it means to fight for freedom. With humor, nostalgic and poetic visuals, combative music, and intense confrontations, the performance unfolds as a love letter to the older generation, focusing on the understanding of toxic survival mechanisms.  

This inspiring performance offers a glimpse into the consequences of centuries-long oppression, with special attention to the personal stories of Javanese Surinamese. BRADA reveals the heroes, the villains, and the forgotten freedom fighters who battled for their ancestors, family, and children. Don't miss it. 

Over LUSU  

LUSU maakt multidisciplinaire theaterbelevenissen voor de tiktok-generatie. Snelle, maatschappelijke, prikkelende scènes gemixt met zelfgeschreven alternatieve pop, R&B en rap, intieme visuals, verhalend en verbindend eten. LUSU snijdt moeilijke en onbesproken thema’s op een persoonlijke manier aan en weet deze met humor en lichtheid te brengen. LUSU maakt niet-westerse storytelling op een moderne manier toegankelijk voor een breed publiek. LUSU maakt daar waar het verschil samenkomt, de stad: oud en jong, arm en rijk, kleur en wit, individu en collectief.  

LUSU staat onder artistieke leiding van Dewi Kasmo en is door haar in 2016 opgericht uit de noodzaak om een plek te creëren die ze nog niet gevonden had in de bestaande theaterwereld. LUSU schijnt licht op verhalen die nog in de schaduw staan. Bij LUSU herken je jezelf in de kwetsbaarheid van de ander.

LUSU creates multidisciplinary theatre experiences for the TikTok generation. Fast, social, stimulating scenes mixed with self-written alternative pop, R&B and rap, dance and intimate visuals. LUSU tackles difficult themes in a personal way and knows how to present them with humor and lightness. LUSU makes non-Western storytelling accessible for a broad audience. LUSU creates in the city, where differences come together: old and young, poor and rich, people of color and white, individual and collective.   

LUSU is under the artistic direction of Dewi Kasmo and was founded by her in 2016 out of the need to create a place that she had not yet found in the existing theatre world. LUSU shines light on stories that are still in the shadows. With LUSU you recognize yourself in the vulnerability of others.
