Indie werd in Italië geboren als zoon van een Palestijnse vader, groeide op in Dubai en volgde vervolgens een opleiding tot filmmaker in New York voordat hij zich in Amsterdam vestigde en een carrière begon als drag-performancekunstenaar. Vóór drag was Indie een veelgeprezen documentairemaker die taboe-onderwerpen aanpakte in keiharde verhalen.
