De voorstelling Saffron is niet los te zien van wat er op dit moment in Palestina gebeurt. Daarom organiseren we in solidariteit met de getroffenen en iedereen die zich betrokken voelt na de voorstelling een jam. Iedereen die wil kan een instrument meenemen. Je mag ook je verhaal delen of wat je ook kwijt wil. Zo staan we samen stil bij alle slachtoffers van de gruwelijkheden die daar nu plaatsvinden.

Wat als jouw land bezet is en als jouw lichaam steeds ter discussie wordt gesteld? Wat als je als Palestijnse en als danseres te mannelijk bent om vrouwelijk te zijn en te vrouwelijk om mannelijk te zijn? Waar vind je dan een thuis?

verhalende dans
Choreograaf en danser Hala Salem, geboren en getogen in Deir Hanna, vond dat in haar lichaam en neemt je mee in haar verhalende en fysieke dans.

coming of age
Saffron is een coming of age verhaal over het vormen van je identiteit.  Want hoe leer je van jezelf houden? Op een baanbrekende mix van Arabische folk en elektronica van Lynn Adib hervindt Salem haar lichaam als een thuis. Een thuis als heilige plek die zweeft tussen mannelijkheid en vrouwelijkheid, tussen hechting en onthechting en tussen haarzelf vinden en verliezen.

Samen met Storytelling Centre en CC Amstel coproduceert What You See dit persoonlijke werk over het lichaam als bron van geborgenheid.

personal quest for the body as home
What if your country is occupied land and if your body is always questioned? What if you as a Palestinian and as a dancer you are too masculine to be feminine and too feminine to be masculine? Where then will you find a home?

narrative dance
Choreographer and dancer Hala Salem, born and raised in Deir Hanna, found that in her body and takes you through her narrative and physical dance. Saffron is a coming of age story about forming your identity.  How do you learn to love yourself? On Lynn Adib's groundbreaking blend of Arabic folk and electronica, Salem rediscovers her body as a home. A sacred place that hovers between masculinity and femininity, between attachment and detachment, between finding herself and losing herself.

Together with Storytelling Centre and CC Amstel, What You See co-produces this personal work about the body as a source of belonging.
